Lekki Arts and Crafts Market is a mecca of sorts for travellers looking to buy authentic Nigerian art and crafts.

This is a famous market with a variety of fashion items, textiles, artwork and paintings, metal and woodwork, among others. And they come at affordable prices. If you really want to feel the pulse and local culture, this is a must-visit destination.

What’s more – it’s an amalgamation of various vendors from different tribes and ethnic nationalities that make up Nigeria. So you’re sure to experience an authentic local feel and touch of the Nigerian culture.

If you don’t like crowds, it’s best to go during the week because it’s usually crowded on weekends. It’s a safe and secure place to shop, so you have no worries looking over your shoulder. You’ll find travellers from all over the world browsing the market, so you’re definitely not alone.

Cash, transfer and all types of payments are accepted at the market. Also referred to as the Oba Elegushi International Market or Jakande Art Market, this colourful market is definitely the highlight of every visit to Lagos.

It is Proudly Nigerian!

An experience like no other, we can't wait to go again!

5/ 5

The Lekki Arts and Crafts Market Experience was the perfect gift for my mother who has always wanted to travel to this area but has never been able to. With COVID, it has been difficult to share connected experiences with our loved ones but Local Purse excelled at not only making this a possibility but having it be an extremely enjoyable experience as well! It truly does feel like you are actually there visiting and we can’t wait to book another experience with Local Purse. If you’re on the fence about trying out this experience take the leap! Trust me, it is worth it!

Lekki Market Visit with Sam

5/ 5

We had an amazing visit to Lekki Market in Lagos, Nigeria with Sam. Having never yet visited a sub-Saharan African country, we felt lucky to have been guided by someone who inquired as to what we were interested in, and then proceeded to show us to some incredible local crafts and arts. Surprisingly, the video and sound quality was excellent, we had no problems with seeing and hearing about whatever Sam was showing us. One unexpected bonus, however, was that when our items arrived in Germany, we were shocked by how much nicer they looked than even what we had seen on video. Who doesn’t love a good surprise? Several times during our trip, we took photos of the two interactive windows. We wanted to invite friends to join – and you definitely will too, if you are guided by the very experienced (and hard-bargaining!) Sam. Thank you so much Sam and Localpurse, for making our first Africa trip so wonderful! PS – only one tip, if you’re buying art, be sure to request a tube shipment for anything that is not framed.
